Sydney FC

Sydney FCKnown as the glamour club of the A-League, Sydney FC has lured the likes of Dwight Yorke, Benito Carbone and Juninho to the harbour city. Having been crowned the inaugural A-League champions in 2005/06, the club went on to claim their first premiership, and second championship, in a highly successful 2009/10 season. Under constant pressure to match the increasing expectations of the Australian public, Sydney finished last season in a dismal ninth position. Despite this failure, the club has remained loyal to manager Vitezslav Lavicka in the hope that he can return them to the top of the A-League.

While attention this week is on Sunday’s grand final in Brisbane, hovering in the background are a raft of technical decisions and announcements about managers that need to be made ahead of next season. This includes key ones in Melbourne and in Sydney, particularly out west. By my calculations, there are only four managers certain [...]

by Cappuccino - April 11th 2012 @ 1:36am

One of the bonuses of having an A-League team in Western Sydney is the creation of a second city derby. Coupled with the Melbourne derby that makes six huge blockbuster matches, each with the potential for large crowds and big TV ratings. But for the league to fully utilize a second derby, the FFA must [...]

This Thursday marked the conclusion to a series of events oddly reminiscent of the old NSL. From a license being stripped and the future of a club in doubt, to the forced introduction of a completely new franchise, it’s been an interesting time to be a football fan in Australia. In theory, the introduction of [...]
