Brisbane Roar

Brisbane RoarThe Brisbane Roar (originally known as Queensland Roar) was forced to change its name following the introduction of the North Queensland Fury and Gold Coast United to the A-League. Despite making back-to-back preliminary finals in 2007/08 and 2008/09, a transitional period under new manager Ange Postecoglou saw the team slip to ninth by the end of 2009/10. However, last season brought about a change in fortune as the club went on the greatest undefeated streak in Australian football history. Following their dramatic penalty-shootout victory over the Central Coast Mariners in the Grand Final, the club extended their unbeaten run to a record 28 matches, a truly remarkable performance by the Brisbane club.

An ACL campaign which started with so much promise for Brisbane Roar ended with a second defeat to an unheralded Japanese side. FFA moves to strengthen coaching, player pathways

by philipcoates - May 5th 2012 @ 1:02am

It’s the nature of any sporting competition that most of us spend our time only looking at the shop front window. We thrill or groan at the quality of the football on the park. We watch transfixed as Clive Palmer and Nathan Tinkler air dirty laundry in full sight. And the football enthusiasts and football [...]

Refereeing is one of the most highly scrutinized aspects of any game and football is no exception. Referees are generally the focus of player, coach, and supporter abuse. Even the media likes to throw in their two cents. Why is football one of the only codes in the world that doesn’t have a video referral [...]

I’m sure many Brisbane Roar players were disappointed when news filtered through that Ange Postecoglou had ‘not been invited’ by Brisbane Roar officials to their annual end-of-season awards night. It was agreed that his defection to the Melbourne Victory would make the night uncomfortable with his presence. From a player perspective, however, his attendance may [...]
